For the second straight season, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has reportedly been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, continuing one of the most dominant stretches in franchise history. Reports surfaced Sunday morning ahead of the official announcement, making Gilgeous-Alexander the first player since Nikola Jokić to win consecutive MVP awards and just the 14th player in league history to accomplish the feat.
Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to another elite regular season.
2025-26 Season Stats
31.1 PPG
6.6 APG
4.3 RPG
55.3 FG%
Led Thunder to 64 wins
The MVP season adds another major achievement to an already historic run for the Thunder star, who helped lead Oklahoma City to an NBA Championship last season and now has the Thunder back in the Western Conference Finals. His consistency, leadership, and ability to dominate on both ends of the floor separated him from fellow finalist Nikola Jokić and Victor Wembanyama in one of the league’s most competitive MVP races in recent memory.
At just 27 years old, Gilgeous-Alexander continues building a legacy that already places him among the greatest players in Thunder history alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. For Oklahoma City fans, the MVP announcement is another reminder that the Thunder are no longer the NBA’s future — they are the NBA’s present.
