The Putnam City North Panthers kept their championship pursuit alive Wednesday night, defeating the Piedmont Wildcats 42-34 in the OSSAA Class 6A Boys Basketball State Tournament quarterfinals at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Putnam City North’s Devion Gillispie and Keaton Murry both scored 9 points in the game to help lead the Panthers to victory.
With the win, Putnam City North advances to the class 6A state semifinals Thursday at Carl Albert High School, moving one step closer to the state championship.
The Panthers entered the state tournament as one of Oklahoma’s most dominant teams this season. Putnam City North came into the quarterfinals matchup with an impressive 26-1 overall record, including an undefeated 10-0 district record, and has been one of the highest scoring teams in class 6A throughout the year.
With the quarterfinals victory secured, Putnam City North now turns its attention to Thursday’s semifinal matchup against Mustang at Carl Albert High School. The Panthers will look to carry their momentum into the next round as they chase a berth I the class 6A state championship game.
