Marching Arts Spotlight by Alonzo Adams Media: Zephyrus Front Ensemble

This week we feature the Zephyrus Drum & Bugle Corps Front Ensemble (pit).

The front ensemble is one of those sections that can completely shape the sound, emotion, and atmosphere of a drum corps show. From marimbas and vibraphones to synth, electronics, auxiliary percussion, and all the small musical details that help connect the full production, the pit plays a major role in bringing the show to life.

Leading the percussion program is Garett Dwyer, who serves as the Percussion Coordinator and Front Ensemble Arranger for Zephyrus. His work helps shape the musical identity of the front ensemble and how that sound supports the full corps.

The Zephyrus front ensemble is also taught and supported by a strong team of technicians, including Gavin Erskins, Chase Gulliver, Shelby Huffman, Payton Icard, Nathan Rainey, and Nathan Siegel.

These educators help the members grow musically, technically, and as performers throughout the season. The front ensemble is positioned at the front of the field, but their impact reaches through the entire production.

I’m excited to spotlight this section and help bring more attention to the performers and staff who create so much of the musical color, energy, and emotion behind Zephyrus Drum and Bugle Corps.
