Mar Quell Robinson - Mustang High School Basketball 2026

This week’s Alonzo Adams Media Athlete Spotlight shines on Mar Quell Robinson of Mustang High School.

Mustang High School basketball guard Mar Quell Robinson is building his name through confidence, work ethic, and a deep love for the game.

Robinson, who goes by Quell, is a 6’3”, 175-pound guard for the Mustang High School Broncos and is part of the Class of 2027. After a standout season, Quell has become one of the young basketball players to watch in Oklahoma.

During the season, Robinson averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. He also made a major impact on one of the biggest stages in Oklahoma high school basketball, finishing as the Class 6A State Tournament leading scorer among the top four teams with 19.6 points per game.

For Quell, basketball is more than a sport. It is something he fell in love with early.

“I go by the name Quell,” Robinson said. “I’m very passionate about the game of basketball, easygoing, family oriented, and I have a great sense of humor.”

Falling in Love with the Game

Quell’s basketball journey started when he was young, watching some of the best players in the game.

“Early on, I used to watch prime Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant and see how they approached the game,” Robinson said. “The passion they played with I instantly was obsessed with the game and knew at the age of seven that’s what I really wanted to do.”

That early inspiration helped shape the way he sees the game today. Like the players he looked up to, Quell values skill, passion, preparation, and confidence.

A Season to Remember at Mustang

One of Quell’s biggest basketball moments came during Mustang’s run to the Class 6A State Championship game this year.

For Robinson, the moment was not just about basketball. It was about community.

“Playing in the 6A State Championship game and seeing how the community of Mustang came out and showed nothing but full support, packed out the arena, and rallied behind us was definitely something to remember,” Robinson said. “Even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted in those closing seconds, I still enjoyed the pride of Mustang fans rallying behind us.”

That championship environment left a lasting impression on him and showed just how much Mustang basketball means to the community.

Preparation, Film, and Taking Care of the Body

Robinson takes his development seriously. His training routine is not just about getting shots up or working on basketball skills. He also studies the game and focuses on taking care of his body.

“After listening to advice from certain NBA players and college players and how they treat and maintain the body, I try to mimic the same,” Robinson said. “On certain days, I break down film to prepare for the next opponent or study myself to get better and improve.”

That combination of film study, physical preparation, and skill work is part of what makes him a strong all around guard.

Adjusting to a New Environment

One of the biggest challenges Quell has faced came away from the court. He moved to a new school midway through his sophomore year, which meant adjusting to new teammates, new coaches, and a new environment.

“My biggest challenge was moving to a new school midway through my sophomore year and having to meet and adjust to something new,” Robinson said. “But having the friends, teammates, and coaches I have helped me overcome the new challenges and new environment.”

That transition helped him grow, both as a person and as a player.

Confidence and Leadership

When asked what leadership means to him, Quell pointed to one key word: confidence.

“Being a leader starts with confidence,” Robinson said. “In order to lead, one must have the confidence to lead others.”

That mindset shows in the way he approaches the game. As a guard, leadership is essential. Quell understands that leading a team starts with believing in yourself and helping others believe too.

Family, Sacrifice, and Role Models

Quell’s biggest role model is his mom.

“My mom is my role model. All the sacrifices, the long school ball and AAU trips, the long days and nights in the gym, and just being there for not just me, but for my brothers and sisters.”

Family plays a major role in his story. Robinson describes himself as family oriented, and the support around him continues to push him forward.

Life Beyond Basketball

While basketball is a major part of his life, Quell also has goals beyond the court. Growing up, he watched both of his parents build successful businesses from the ground up, and that example has influenced his future vision.

“Growing up, I’ve seen both of my parents create and build successful businesses from the ground up that reside in people’s day-to-day life,” Robinson said. “So I could definitely see myself creating or doing something business related.”

His long-term goal is to become a Division I student athlete and major in either business management or sports medicine.

“My main goal is to be a Division I student-athlete and major in business management or sports medicine,” Robinson said. “Hopefully I can translate my college degree and knowledge to day-to-day life skills.”

Quell’s Advice to Other Athletes

For younger athletes chasing their own dreams, Robinson’s message is simple and strong.

“Be confident, stay humble, don’t never ever quit, and don’t ever stop chasing your dream,” Robinson said.
