This week the Alonzo Adams Media Athlete Spotlight shines on 5-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. of Mustang High School in Mustang, OK. Osborne has developed into one of the top defensive backs in the country and one of the biggest names in Oklahoma’s 2027 recruiting class. After a strong junior season with the Broncos, his stock continued to rise nationally, and in July he earned 5-star status in the updated Rivals rankings. Rivals moved Osborne to No. 21 nationally, while 247Sports has also rated him as a 5-star prospect.
At 6 foot 2 and around 190 pounds, Osborne brings the size of a modern cornerback along with the versatility to make an impact at defensive back, wide receiver and on special teams. During his 2025 junior season at Mustang, he recorded 65 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble, while continuing to show the ball skills and athleticism that have made him a national recruit. He is also a multi-sport athlete, competing in basketball and track and field, where he has established himself as one of Oklahoma’s top long jumpers.
After his senior season at Mustang, Osborne plans to stay home and play college football for the University of Oklahoma. He committed to the Sooners on June 1, 2026, choosing Oklahoma over a national group of programs that included Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Miami. Now entering his final high school season as a 5-star prospect and one of the nation’s top-ranked cornerbacks, Osborne has an opportunity to close his Mustang career with plenty of eyes watching before taking the next step to Norman and the Oklahoma Sooners.
