Juneteenth on the East: Oklahoma City celebrates with marching bands, dancing, music, Big K.R.I.T., and black culture.

Juneteenth or Freedom Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is celebrated on June 19 which is the day in 1865 when enslaved black men, women and children in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of celebrations and freedom for black people across the United State and a time to celebrate black culture and heritage.

The Oklahoma City black community ends the celebration with a festival and block party for families to gather, celebrate each other, the culture, and heritage.

Here are a few photos I shot during the Juneteenth on the East celebration in Oklahoma City on June 21, 2025. A couple of videos I shot are below the photos.
